How Do You Relate to Variety and Change?

This reflection looks at whether variety, new beginnings, unfamiliar places, and changes in routine currently fit your self-description more or less than familiarity and continuity. It does not measure risk-taking, courage, spontaneity, adaptability skill, creativity, intelligence, or whether a particular change is wise.

Inside the assessment

One score, read carefully.

TraitSpring uses the 10-item preliminary IPIP Adventurousness scale, which the IPIP describes as measuring a construct similar to the NEO-PI-R Actions (O4) facet. The official comparison table reports a mean item intercorrelation of .24, coefficient alpha of .77, and an uncorrected correlation of .71 with the comparison Actions scale in 501 adult Eugene–Springfield participants. These are group-level development statistics. They do not establish the precision, stability, or truth of one individual standalone result, and this is not the proprietary NEO assessment.

Very Inaccurate through Very Accurate receive 1–5 points. The first four items are scored directly; the final six are reverse scored from 5 to 1. The ten keyed values are summed for a total from 10 to 50, and the report also shows the average keyed response out of 5. TraitSpring’s less, mixed, and more positions are descriptions of the possible response range, not author cutoffs or population norms.

This private self-reflection is based on ten self-report statements. It is not a percentile or population ranking and does not measure courage, judgment, adaptability skill, creativity, intelligence, impulsivity, or willingness to take physical or financial risks. It is not a diagnosis or a basis for employment, education, clinical, insurance, safety, relationship screening, or other high-stakes decisions.
